
Aletia Haynes Timmons
Judge Aletia Haynes Timmons is a distinguished legal professional, community advocate, and dedicated public servant with a career spanning nearly four decades. Her commitment to justice, fairness, and service has shaped her path as an attorney, judge, and mentor.
A proud graduate of John Marshall High School (1979), Judge Timmons earned her B.S. in Political Science with a minor in History from Oklahoma State University (1983) before obtaining her Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma College of Law (1986). She was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association in 1986 and is licensed to practice in the Western, Eastern, and Northern Districts of the United States District Courts, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
Legal Career
Before being elected as District Judge in 2014, Judge Timmons built an extensive and impactful legal career:
– Founder of Timmons & Associates, LLC (2003-2014), where she specialized in civil rights and employment law.
– Attorney at Abel Musser, Sokolosky, Mares & Khouri, where she established and led the firm’s civil rights and employment law litigation section.
– Deputy Chief, Civil Division, Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office.
– Attorney at General Motors Legal Services, where she began her legal career.
As a law student, she and her moot court partner won the first national championship in oral and written advocacy for the University of Oklahoma in 26 years. She also gained invaluable experience interning at both the Oklahoma Supreme Court and the Federal Court for the Western District of Oklahoma.
Leadership & Community Involvement
Beyond the courtroom, Judge Timmons has been a committed advocate for justice, education, and community development. She has served in key leadership roles, including:
– Appointee of Governor David Walters to the Committee on the Status of Women.
– Appointee of Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justices to the Time Standards Committee and the Access to Justice Committee.
– Adjunct Instructor at Langston University’s Oklahoma City Campus.
– Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Speaker for the Oklahoma County and Oklahoma Bar Associations.
– Mentor and Youth Advocate, providing shadowing and internship opportunities at the Oklahoma County Courthouse.
– Co-founder of Jamming Hoopfest, a program in Northeast Oklahoma City aimed at addressing food insecurity while providing mentorship and character development for youth.
– Annual Speaker for Youth Leadership Programs, including We Rise, a teen women’s empowerment initiative in collaboration with the Oklahoma City Police Department.
